I do it all the time and find it mildly frustrating but not enough to do anything about it. (more…)

There are a couple of ways to get the length of a poly line primitive segment, the Measure SOP does this out of the box. And in most cases just use that it works perfectly and its fast. Emoov Flocking System

June 24, 2018Uncategorized No Comments

This was a fun project I worked on a while back. I built the flocking system used in all the shots of the traveling murmuration of budgies.  I didn’t actually do any of the shots that was done by some of our other very talented artists at Glassworks.

I was a fairly standard boids implementation that wasn’t as fully featured as I wanted it to be but it was good enough for what we needed. It was all done in wrangles with POP and I thing next time I would rather try doing it with the  built in crowd systems maybe just extending it where needed.

Hello World

September 3, 2017Uncategorized No Comments

Hello and welcome to my CG blog which will be mostly about Houdini and a little of Redshift. After years of only using Vimeo to showcase what I can do and the forums to share ideas I decided its time to have a central place to use as a base.

This is what that blog is a place to share tips and tricks on how to achieve different effects in Houdini sharing the knowledge and helping others get productive in this beast of a software package. Also importantly to help my future self who will probably forget half my own setups answer the question how did I do that again?

I will post R&D, projects I worked on, some quick tips and a tutorial or two. if you stumbled across this blog by chance or if you are looking for something specific I hope you find something useful one here.
